Spotlight on Mercy Ama Anim, writer and entrepreneur.
Mercy Anim is one hard working entrepreneur and author of four books. She is getting rave reviews of all four books, "Mrs. Doctor", "Love is not Enough", "Princess Foruwa and the Gold Kingdom" and "Dreams, Changes and Caviar Wishes". She has been hailed by some in the Publishing industry as the "Ama Atta Aidoo of the 21st century" a role model to future female writers.
On September 20th, at ORIGIN Books, Art and Coffee store, fans of the author got the opportunity of meeting her in person and to find out more about the inspiration behind her writing. Supported by her dear husband; Dr. Martin Anim, her three children, her friends and lovers of book reading, Mrs Anim briefed the audience about why she wrote those books. She indicated that she derives her inspiration and motivation from the children she works with. She wanted to do something for the children and also to let them know that everything is possible if they believe in themselves. She revealed to her fans that as a child whenever she was asked what she wanted as a gift, she had requested a book. Because of her love of reading, she also fell in love with writing which led her to study Journalism at the Institute of Journalism in Ghana and she made a promise to herself that someday she would write a book.
When Mrs. Anim was asked by a fan who is her role model in America, the author named Oprah Winfrey and her reason is that Oprah worked very hard to get to where she is at now and that success does not always come easy but you never give up. In Africa, her role model was her mother who in spite of her lack of education also worked very hard to be a successful business woman.
Mrs Anim also took the opportunity to sign the books for her fans. Those who had come also made comments about how they love reading her books and cannot stop reading them.
Among the noted personalities was; Mr. Kofi A. Boateng, Chief Operations Officer of the Africa America Institute and NPP USA Chairman. Mr. Boateng has made a comment to Ms Anim about how she has a great husband not too concerned about the content of one of her books which seem to reflect on the behavior of a husband "Mrs. Doctor.". Mr. Boateng has read all four of Mrs. Anim's books and requested her autograph. Mrs Anim credited her husband for his unconditional support and encouragement in making her dreams come true.
Some of the proceeds are going towards an Education Fund at her Day Care center and also towards future children of Sprint Start International School in Ghana. Construction of Sprint Start International School will begin in October of this year. The school should be up and running in 2009. She had already shipped some of the equipment and materials needed for the school.
Mrs. Anim is working on her fifth book about her experiences in the child care business in America. She is also working on a compilation of short stories for children to read.
