Mfantseman District Road Safety Committee inaugurated

Saltpond (C/R), May 20, GNA - District Road Safety Committees (DRSC) have been urged to encourage the formation of Road Safety Clubs in schools and communities to inculcate good road usage habits especially in the youth.

Mrs May Obiri-Yeboah, Manager, Planning and Education Division, National Road Safety Commission, who made the call said when children some whom would become future drivers know road safety at an early age they would exhibit responsible behaviour on the road when grew up since road safety had become part of them.

Mrs Obiri-Yeboah speaking at the inauguration of the Mfantseman District Road Safety Committee at Saltpond said, "As most of accidents can be attributed to irresponsible human behaviour, DRSCs have a responsibility of seeing to it that road users especially drivers change their negative road traffic behaviour".

Mr Thomas Bismarck Boakye, Road Safety Coordinator in-charge of the Central and Western Regions, appealed to the Committee not to concentrate their campaigns to the Christmas and Easter periods alone but to make them a regular feature.

Road Safety education must be sustained throughout the year, he stated.

Dasebre Kwebu Ewusie VII, Omanhene of the Abeadze Traditional Area, who is the Chairman of the Committee, said the District was noted as an accident-prone area and appealed to the Commission to provide the Committee with the necessary logistics to enable it to work effectively.
