Mankessim (CR), Dec 30, GNA - The Mfantseman District branch of the Ghana Red Cross Society has launched a sanitation programme to rid some communities especially Mankessim of filth.
Speaking to the Ghana News Agency after a cleanup exercise to launch the programme at Mankessim, Mr Vincent Biney Amissah, District Red Cross Organiser, said the decision to embark on the programme was necessitated by the reported cases of cholera in some parts of the country and the fact that malaria had been identified as the major health problem.
He said that since poor sanitation was the cause of the two diseases the Society decided to embark on the programme and appealed to the District Assembly, corporate bodies and the churches for support with logistics. Mr Amissah, who is a member of the District Assembly appealed to owners of undeveloped plots to maintain them regularly. 30 Dec 05
