Technical Controller at the Millennium Development Authority (MiDA), Ing. William Amuna, says it would construct some primary bulk supply sub-stations at the University of Ghana Medical Hospital and the Noguchi Research Institute to assist its operations.
According to him, another sub-station will be constructed at the Kanda area on land belonging to the Ghana Military to supply reliable electricity to the 37 Military Hospital.
“We’re building two major primary sub-stations for the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) to supply the new teaching hospital at the University of Ghana and one to support the Noguchi Medical Research Institute. We’ve imagined that the new teaching hospital is going to be equipped with expensive equipment that will need a very reliable power supply and MiDA is going to put up a very efficient state of the art sub-station”
“In order that the primary sub-stations get power to supply to its customers, there must be a line linking the two of them called; Interconnecting Lines. We’re constructing these interconnecting lines for the Bulk Supply Points (BSP) to the primary sub-stations.”
Ing. William Amuna speaking at press soiree in Accra explained that the authority would support the training of students in energy auditing at the University of Renewable Energy in Sunyani, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science Technology (KNUST) and the Accra Technical University.
“These training centres will be set up where we’d have students coming from the University coming to study energy auditing and if that person comes to your house, they can use equipment to check and advise consumers on which appliances to use in their homes to make it more energy efficient,” he concluded.
The Millennium Development Authority is the implementing agency that was established by an Act of Parliament (Act 702, 709 & 897 as amended).
Its objectives are to oversee, manage and implement the Programmes under the Millennium Challenge Account for poverty reduction through economic growth as set out in each agreement between the Government of Ghana and the Millennium Challenge Corporation acting for and on behalf of the Government of the United States of America.
