Ace Musician Ekow Micah, who is being held over a drug related offence, has finally secured a new lawyer to defend him.

Micah on September 25 prayed an Accra Circuit Court for an adjournment to enable him secure the services of a new counsel.

He had dumped Mr David Merson, who was earlier on handling his case, saying he did not need his services.

Mr Andy Kudzoe Vortia, who has now taken over the matter, prayed the court to grant him leave to secure its proceedings and study same.

According to counsel, the proceedings would also enable him to meet with his client and advise him accordingly.

The defence counsel said he intended re-calling two witnesses in the matter.

However, prosecuting Assistant Superintendent of Police (ACP) Moses Atibillah, said he was ready to continue with the case by calling its third witness.

ACP Atibillah, therefore, suggested that the third witness should be allowed to give evidence then counsel could cross-examine her.

The court advised him to secure the proceeding before making his intention known.

The court, therefore, adjourned the matter to October 13.

Micah has denied the charge of possessing narcotic drugs without lawful authority and he is currently on remand.

Narrating the facts of the case earlier, ACP Atibillah said Micah is a resident of Ogbojo, near Kokrobite in Accra.

He said on August 4, Micah was arrested by the Airport Police over an alleged extortion case currently under investigations.

ACP Atibillah said the following day, at about 1130 hours, the Police and the accused person visited Micah’s house to conduct a search and in the process, a quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp was found concealed in Micah’s “back pack”.

Prosecution said the exhibit was sent to the Police Forensic Crime laboratory for examination.
