A Ghanaian musician, Michael Adangba, has opened up about how business mogul, Ibrahim Mahama, financially sponsored his open heart surgery in South Africa.

Sharing his medical journey on TV3’s Day show on November 8, 2024, Adangba said the business mogul covered all his medical expenses, despite the cost being high.

“I went to South Africa for surgery which was sponsored by Ibrahim Mahama. He sponsored me to a medical facility which is highly renowned,” he said.

Speaking about his medical condition, Adangba shared that his surgery was performed to help his heart beat at a normal rate.

“The surgery wasn’t to cure the heart but to help it pump. The drugs were doing that but they became used to the body and wasn’t effective. The drug’s side effect is that it affects your kidneys making them not able to properly function,” he explained.

He added that his heart condition started from his childhood at the blind side of his mother who had no idea of his condition.

“When I went to the hospital, the test showed that my condition started from childhood and my mother didn’t know. I also didn’t know because I was very young with no knowledge of this condition.”

Adangba disclosed that he spends between GH¢18,000 and GH¢20,000 on medications every month due to his enlarged heart.

“Some of the drugs are being sold for 1,600 cedis per box for 28 days. Others are more expensive. I spend around GH¢18,000 - GH¢20,000 every month,” he shared.
