Midland Assault: Yilo Klo State apologises; donates GHC2,000 to victim

The Traditional Council and residents of Yilo Klo State have rendered an unqualified apology on behalf of Lance Corporal Frederick Godzi Amanor for assaulting a nursing mother at Midland Savings and Loans Company Limited in Accra.

In a communique signed by Nene Narh Ogbordjor Agbo III, the Yilo Klo State described the actions of the police officer as “inappropriate and dehumanizing” but pleaded on his behalf.

“Mr. Frederick Godzi Amanor is a true son of Dangme land and as much as we are embarrassed and disappointed to the core by his negligence and misconduct, we would also like to appeal to the kindhearted victims, people of Ghana especially our highly esteemed women to forgive him,” the statement reads.

In addition, the Yilo Klo State, according to the statement is presenting an amount of GHC2,000 to the victim, Madam Patience Safo to be used to settle her medical bills.

“We have enclosed as part of the apology statement an amount of GhC 2,000.00 to be used by the victim to defray her medical bills. We are hereby assuring the people of Ghana that concrete steps are been taken to avert any future occurrence of such shameful mishap among Dangme youths,” the statement reveals.

Background

The police officer was caught in a viral video, ruthlessly beating the victim, Patience Safo who had insisted on withdrawing a sum of GHC270 from Midland as her previous attempts to take the money days back had failed due to apparent network challenges.

Lance Corporal Amanor, serving as a security personnel at the Shaishie branch of the Midland Savings and Loans Company Limited, ended up beating the nursing mother for refusing to leave the premises and for other reasons “unknown”.

The officer’s action has received widespread condemnation with many calling on the Ghana Police Service to act swiftly in serving justice to the victim.



President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has also condemned the assault and promised to support any measure taken by the IGP to punish Lance Corporal Amanor.

Meanwhile, Lance Corporal Frederick Amanor is expected to be arraigned before court over his behavior.

The Chiefs, Queen Mothers and people of Yilo Klo State in true spirit of comradeship and forbearance join hands with all the independent Dangme states of Ghana including Manya Klo, Osudoku, Shai, Kpone, Prampram, Ningo, Ada and Agortsom to render an unqualified apology to His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, President of the Republic of Ghana, Mr. David Asante-Apeatu, the Inspector General of Ghana Police Service, the child, mother and family, the illustrious women of our country, and the entire good people of Ghana on behalf Lance Corporal Frederick Godzi Amanor for his inappropriate and dehumanizing conduct towards a nursing mother while on duty at the Midland Savings and Loans company.



Mr. Frederick Godzi Amanor is a true son of Dangme land and as much as we are embarrassed and disappointed to the core by his negligence and misconduct, we would also like to appeal to the kindhearted victims, people of Ghana especially our highly esteemed women to forgive him.
