Mike Oquaye campaigns in Volta Region

Hohoe, July 10, GNA- Professor Mike Oquaye, aspiring New Patriotic Party (NPP) Presidential candidate at the weekend said a "University of the Volta" would be a priority under his administration because of the support and toil of the people in the region for the Progress Party in the past.

He said the region returned the highest votes in the 1960 elections for the Busia/Danquah tradition, which had now been usurped by the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Professor Oquaye who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Kwabenya said this during a meeting with delegates, polling station chairmen and constituency executives from Hohoe north and south constituencies at Hohoe.

He said an operation dubbed "Sankofa" would be staged to revert the political fortunes of the region to its former stance to appease the founders of the party.

"The Volta Region would assume its rightful position politically and look differently under my administration," Professor Oquaye stated. He said he had the capacity to hold on to political power for the NPP, and annul any threat of the NDC flagbearer, Professor John Atta Mills, because he (Oquaye) had a lot of comparative advantage over him and therefore should be the preferred choice.

Professor Oquaye pledged to remodel the economy and give it a better footing than it is presently.

He assured the constituencies that with his moral, spiritual and financial assistance, he would be able to deliver the two Hohoe seats. Mr Abdallah Mohamed Sadiq, chairman of the Hohoe-North constituency on behalf of the supporters congratulated the aspirant for his support to the constituency in the 2004 general elections.
