Military commended for partaking in Operation Calm Life

Tema, Aug. 4, GNA - The Ghana Armed Forces on Tuesday commended military personnel among the "Operation Calm Life" troops for assisting the Police to effectively curb the high rate of armed robbery in the country.

The General Officer Commanding the Southern Command, Brigadier-General Martin Ahiaglo said this at a commendation parade for One Garrison Operation Calm Life troops at Mitchel Camp in Tema. Brig-Gen Ahiaglo said "since the inception of the operation, you have effectively assisted the Police to curb the ever-increasing incidents of armed robbery in the Eastern Region and the Tema Metropolis as well as the Ashaiman Municipality".

He attributed the success of the operations to personnel's professionalism, dedication and above all, their loyalty. Brig-Gen Ahiaglo said in spite of numerous constraints faced by personnel, they have contributed to the creation of a safe and congenial atmosphere for citizens to go about their legitimate duties without any hindrance.

This, he said, manifested in the low incidence of armed robberies recorded in the Eastern Region over a very long period and last month their alertness resulted in foiling armed robberies in Tema and Ashaiman.

Brig-Gen Ahiaglo lauded six of the personnel for the role they played in the arrest of two armed robbers, who snatched a taxi from its driver on the Suhum/Accra highway. He said the public had been following their operations with admiration and that the Commander-in-Chief, through the Minister of Defence, had pledged to provide logistics and moral support for the security services to be able to make the entire country secure and safe. Brig-Gen Ahiaglo appealed to the Military not to relent in its efforts to support the Police to clamp down on the activities of armed robbers and other criminals. He said incentive packages would be given to personnel, who performed exceptionally well in the course of the operation.
