Security Analyst David Agbee has said that agreeing to the US Military base in Ghana simply means mortgaging the National security and sovereignty of the country.

According to him, a US military base in Ghana will trigger other countries like Russia, United Kingdom and China to set their own military bases in neighboring countries which will interfere in the smooth running of governance in each country as a sovereign state.

“Should we allow this this to happen, other countries like Russia, United Kingdom and China will follow, there is going to be militarization in the West Africa sub region” he said

Mr. Agbee was of the view that, the US having access to Ghana’s radio spectrum as stated in the agreement is just a political extension for US adding that “What the Americans want to do is to protect their investment in Ghana, all the oil in discovery and the investment they have in there”

According to him, the US already have economic power in Ghana and therefore wants to add military power in other to protect their interest in the country.

“You do remember the dispute between Ghana and Cote d'Ivoire over the discovery of oil in the sea, they were monitoring and policing around that what is going to happen so that they can strike and should we allow this to happen, there will be militarization in West Africa sub region” he said.

Mr. Agbee was speaking at a public lecture dubbed “Ghana’s dark days reincarnated” in Accra on Tuesday, April 10th.
