Mills Campaign Man Burgled

He ACCUSES SECURITY OPERATIVES

The Deputy Campaign Manager of Professor John Evans Atta-Mills’ Campaign Team, Elvis Afriyie-Ankrah says he suspects that thieves who broke into his vehicle last Friday may be agents of the national security apparatus. The thieves made away with important personal and official NDC documents as well as some campaign materials of Prof John Evans Atta-Mills.

Asked why he suspects national security agents of any involvement in the theft, he referred to similar break-ins into the vehicles of the Minority Leader, Alban Bagbin and the NDC MP for Kumbungu, Mohammed Mumuni and said “all those happened when these men were turning the heat on the system with valid critique of Government”.

Mr Afriyie-Ankrah told the Independent newspaper that his Mitsubishi Galloper was broken into by thieves at Roman Ridge last Friday, when he went for a meeting. According to him the thieves took away his wine leather briefcase which contained several travel documents, his diary, four floppy diskettes which contained official NDC material and his personal academic work.

He said, “initially it appeared that it was an ordinary robbery but later after a close examination, I found out that the thieves did not tamper with even the tape in the car. Rather they tampered with a compartment where I keep my daily itinerary which contained details of my activities”

“If I link it up to what happened to Hon Bagbin and Hon Mohammed Mumuni recently, then you can draw you own conclusion”, Mr Afriyie-Ankrah said in response to a question as to the basis of his suspicion of the involvement of national security operatives in the theft.

He said he has been going round the Greater Accra Region with Prof Mills on his campaign and he suspects that as one of the speakers on such campaigns rounds, he may have been targeted by the national security operatives to put the fear of God in him.
