Mills Mourns Yeltsin

NDC Presidential Candidate for the 2008 elections, Prof John Evans Atta Mills, has offered his condolences and that of his party to the people of Russia at the passing away of their immediate past president, Mr. Boris Yeltsin, in a Moscow hospital on Monday.

In a letter signed by Prof Mills and delivered to the Russian Ambassador to Ghana, Mr. Andrei Pokrovskiy, the former Vice President stated that he has heard with a deep sense of sorrow the passing away of Boris Yeltsin and wished to let the people of Russia know that they were not alone in mourning their loss.

According to Prof Mills, in as much as the people of Russia would be hard hit by the passing away of their former president, they should take consolation in the fact that they were at a point time, blessed with his leadership.

“Ghana has always had a close relationship with Russia right from the days of our first President, Kwame Nkrumah and as Vice President of Ghana between 1996 and 2000, I personally had lots of dealings with Russia at the time that Mr. Yeltsin was President of your country and can say without equivocation that the supreme interest of Russia was foremost on his mind.” the letter read in part.

“As I share in your sorrow, I hope you take consolation in the fact that Mr. Boris Yeltsin served his motherland to the best of his ability and has left a lasting impression on the minds of Russians and the world at large” the NDC Presidential Candidate added.

“My thoughts and that of my party are with you in these times” the letter ended.
