Mills To Try Again ....

... Contesting For NDC Presidential Slot
Ashaiman, Sept. 08, GNA - Professor John Evans Atta-Mills, Former Vice President on Thursday dismissed rumours that he would not contest the presidential slot of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). "Atta-Mills is contesting and will win," he declared.

The Former Vice President made the declaration at the inauguration of the Tema District Co-ordinating Committee of the NDC at Ashaiman. The 29-member committee, the first to be inaugurated by the party, is to mobilize people at the grassroots, and intensify the party's membership drive to ensure victory in the 2008 general elections. Mr Ellis Aferi is the Co-ordinator and Mr Bawa Ibrahim, Secretary.

Prof. Atta-Mills urged party activists, supporters and sympathisers to endeavour to accommodate views of the other presidential aspirants, saying, "don't be hostile to them."

He pledged his commitment to work with any of the contestants who would emerge as the party's flagbearer, and assured the supporters that NDC would win the 2008 general elections, and change the destiny of Ghana.

"We are going to do something new in 2008. We are going to take our destiny into our own hands,=94 the former Vice President stated. Prof. Atta-Mills advised members of the party to remain united, adding, "let us work hard and the good Lord will lead us to victory in 2008."

On the cocaine saga, Prof. Atta-Mills made it clear that since the matter threatened the security of the country, it must not be oversimplified.

Prof. Atta-Mills appealed to foreign intelligence agencies in the country, Britain and the United States, to offer the needed assistance to unravel all circumstances surrounding the issue.

"If the foreign intelligence agencies are friends of Ghana, then they must help us to get the truth in the matter established."

Mrs Ama Benyiwa-Doe, Former Parliamentarian and a leading member of the NDC, advised members to remain united, committed, dedicated and steadfast.

She warned that the party would not tolerate any rigging in the 2008 general elections.

Mr Alfred Agbesi, Member of Parliament for Ashaiman, assured Ghanaians that the doors of the party were opened, and asked members of the Co-ordinating Committee to endeavour to woo defected members back. Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo, Member of Parliament for Kpone-Katamanso, warned NDC members working as 91agents' of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the ruling party to desist from their acts because they would not be spared when found.

Mr Danny Anang, Greater-Accra Regional Chairman of NDC who swore the committee members into office, reminded them of the Herculean task ahead to ensure the party won all the seats in the five constituencies within Tema Municipality.
Mr Anang urged supporters of the party to lend it their moral, physical and financial support, to ensure victory in 2008.
Mr Aferi, Co-ordinator of the Committee, or behalf of his colleagues, pledged their avowed determination to work assiduously in order not to disappoint the party for the confidence reposed in them.
"We shall give a new and brighter face to the party within the municipality, beyond and ensure that we collaborate effectively at all levels to win the 2008 general elections,=94 he declared.
