The controversy surrounding a young man, Samuel Kofi Atta Mills, said to be the only child of President John Evans Atta Mills, has resurfaced.
It was ignited by a Deputy Communications Director of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Sammy Awuku, who thinks the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and its members have no moral right to question the moral uprightness of the presidential candidate of his party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
In an interview with DAILY GUIDE, Awuku noted: “It beats everybody’s imagination and it’s a slap in the face of Ghanaian tradition to have a son who cannot visit his father in the house or at home.
“It’s no secret now that his ‘son’ even when in the country, he can’t even go to the house where Naadu Mills (the President’s wife) and the President are supposed to be living,” he alleged.
NDC propagandists like deputy Minister for the Interior, Kobby Acheampong and Felix Kwakye Ofosu have made it a chorus, asking the NPP leader, Nana Akufo-Addo to wean himself of an alleged drug tag even though United States authorities like the Port Authority of New York have given him a clean bill of health in that regard.
What seems to have provoked Mr Awuku to make the call was the reiteration of the allegation by a member of the NDC’s communication team, Haruna Alidu on Adom FM on Friday.
Alidu, who works at the office of a Deputy Chief of Staff, Alex Segbefia, went on to accuse the NPP presidential candidate of womanising.
“If we believe that we need to test the character, strength and the moral uprightness of all candidates wanting to be President of our country, we need to begin to look into the skeletons in their cupboards as well and we cannot have a President who cannot take care of his supposed only child and only son and wants to continue supervising and taking care of over 25million Ghanaians. No wonder nothing seems to be working! ” Awuku stressed.
He challenged President Mills to undergo a DNA test (deoxyribonucleic acid test) to establish that the gentleman was indeed his son.
“We believe that if that’s the only child you have in the world, you should even be seen pampering this child and grooming this child to take over whatever you own in this world. ”
Instead, the outspoken NPP activist said, “what we see day to day is complete neglect and it feeds into the rumour and we also do have a lot of information on this ‘son’ to suggest that it is not the son of the President and indeed somebody may have thrown this child on the President. ”
For him, “it’s about time he let this child know that if ‘yes I’m your father or no I’m not your father’ and this child would know what to do with his life rather than live with the impression that I have a father who is the President of the country, however when I visit, I cannot go home to the house where my father lives. ”
Samuel Kofi Atta Mills, said to be 23 years and living in the United Kingdom, has never stayed with his father under one roof.
Mr Awuku considers Felix Kwakye Ofosu, who has been lambasting Nana Akufo-Addo with accusations of drug use as ‘a nonentity without identity’ since according to him, “after the Ghanaian people sacrificing our meagre taxes- and making sure that the tro-tro driver, the taxi driver, the meat pie seller and the ordinary Ghanaian wake up around 4:30am to catch a bus to work- to educate this young man during his Masters programme and all this guy wants to do to contribute to Ghana’s development is to continue peddling lies and falsehood.
“But when asked what he has worked for and achieved for himself as a person, he cannot lay claim to anything apart from laying claim to the fact that he has been number one propaganda general of the NDC and to be used for their dirty work. Anything his superiors find that they cannot say, they say you go say it,” he noted.
