The Minerals Commission of Ghana has donated Gh¢50, 000 to the Mamfe Methodist Girls Senior High School (Meghis), following the school’s performance in winning the 2019 edition of the World Robofest competition held in Michigan, USA last May.

In addition, each of the 10 team members and their two coordinators were given Gh, 1000 cedis each and an additional Gh10,000 to be used for organising meals for the entire school as part of the school’s jubilation.

Making the donation at a special church service held in the school to welcome the Girls, Mr Richard Quansah, CEO of Richie Plantations undertaking nursing of seedlings for the Minerals Commission under the Alternative Livelihood Project in the Akuapem North Municipality, said the school had lifted the name of Ghana high and deserved to be celebrated.

He asked them to use the money to provide the necessary infrastructural facilities that would improve teaching and learning in the school as well as give the school a facelift to be able to produce more girls who would continue to put Ghana on the world’s radar.

The board of the Minerals Commission, led by its chairman, Mr S.K Boafo, former Minister of State and Member of Parliament joined the school to celebrate the team, after inspecting the project in the municipality.

The Minerals Commission is undertaking a 30-acre seedlings plantation in the Akuapem North Municipality under a project to provide alternative livelihood job opportunities in the agriculture sector for people in the illegal mining areas popularly known as galamsey as a means to end the menace.

The project is being undertaken by Richie Plantations in the Central region and the Akuapem North municipality in the Eastern region.

Mrs Sylvia Laryea headmistress, of the school who received the donation on behalf of the school thanked the Minerals Commission and said the school was bedeviled with several infrastructure deficits and the money would go a long way to fix most of them and expand the school for more girls to be admitted.
