Minister appeals to Muslims to educate their children

Cape Coast, Oct. 10, GNA - The Central Regional Minister, Mrs Ama Benyiwa Doe, has appealed to Muslim parents to educate their children particularly the girl child and said a woman's place was no longer the kitchen. She said some young people were into homosexuality, cyber crime, indecent dressing and drug abuse due to lack of parental training and care at home and that the time had come for parents to assume their responsibilities towards their children.

Mrs Benyiwa Doe said his when she addressed the climax of the 14 National Da'awa (convention) of Ahlussaunna Wal-Jama'a (ASWAJ) held in Cape Coast under the theme 93Homosexuality a threat to society". The three-day religious programme was attended by more than 5000 delegates drawn from all the regions.

He thanked all Imams for their cordial relationship with their Christian counterparts that has resulted in peace in the country. The National Chief Imam of ASWAJ, Sheikh Uimar Ibrahim, condemned homosexuality in all parts of the world with special reference to Ghana. He said parental neglect could be one of the major causes of homosexuality and prostitution.

Sheikh Ibrahim said cyber crime was another challenge posed by parental neglect and that the nation was losing its youth. He thanked the government and the Hajj committee for establishing a Hajj village for Muslim pilgrims and that this had made it comfortable for Muslims who now embank on the hajj. Sheik Yakub Shaltut, the Central Regional Imam, said ASWAJ has chalked successes in the field of education.

He said apart from the Abubakar Siddiq Islamic secondary school at Agona Nyakrom, the Naana Khadija Islamic Girls secondary at Agona Swedru and the Islamic Training Centre at Gomoa-Gyaman, two other secondary schools were under construction at Kasoa and Ekumfi-Twa. An appeal for funds in support of the construction of the two secondary schools at Kasoa and Ekumfi-Twa yielded 108,000 Ghana cedis.
