Minister calls for sustained peace in Tatale

Tamale, March 16, GNA - The Deputy Northern Regional Minister, Mr Sam Nasamu Asabigi, has appealed to the chiefs of the Zabzugu-Tatale to let peace reign in order to mine the iron ore deposit in the area. He said that the two chiefs have laid claims to a piece of land in the area which is said to contain some mineral deposits.

Mr Asabigi, who was speaking at the opening session of the annual general meeting of the Ghana Network for Peace Building (GHANEP) in Tamale on Wednesday, urged them to assist in the amicable settlement of the dispute. The meeting, which was under the theme; 93Taking stock and focusing on the future in unity" was aimed at strategizing for the year 2011.

The Deputy Minister said although efforts are being made to settle the dispute through the judiciary and the House of Chiefs, more efforts are needed to prevent it from escalating into a conflict. Mr Shaibu Abubakar, Chairman of the Executive Committee of GHANEP, said the meeting would consider strategies that will propel the development and growth of the organization. He said GHANEP would continue to assist in the fight for peace and avoidance of conflicts in the country. 16 March 11
