Minister commends BGL for good relationship

Prestea, March 22, GNA - Ms Chritine Churcher, the Minister of Environment and Science, has commended Bogoso Gold Limited (BGL) for good relations with the residents of the community in which it operates. She said she has realized that there was a healthy interaction between the mine and its catchments communities.

Ms Churcher said this during an interaction with Nana Richard Hagan, the Manager of Community Affairs and Sustainable Development Department and a section of Prestea residents when she paid a four-day visit to the Wassa West District.

She said the performance was impressive saying, "Hitherto, there was a lot of friction but now I realize that the improvement in the relationship is significant to such an extent that communities are taken on board in some decisions of the mine".

Touching on the environment, she said the mine was sensitive to environmental issues and that it has an environmental department which ensures the mine's operation was within the confines of the law.
