Minister inaugurates school project

Akwadum (E/R), Nov. 21, GNA- The Minister of Interior, Mr. Hackman Owusu-Agyeman on Friday cut the tape to inaugurate a 391 million-cedi school project at Akwadum, near Koforidua.

The new six-classroom structure with headteacher's office, staff common room and a store was constructed by the New Juaben Municipal Assembly for the Akwadum Roman Catholic Primary School. Speaking at the function, Mr Owusu-Agyeman said the new educational reform programme, which was to be implemented by the government would ensure a knowledge-based economy.

He called on the people at Akwadum to help protect facilities provided them by the government so that in future, government would be adding up to what it had already provided and not to replace a destroyed or stolen property.

The New Juaben Municipal Chief Executive, Nana Akwesi Adjei-Boateng called on teachers to help improve upon the performance of pupils in the municipality.

He said within the last four years, the Municipal Assembly had constructed 18 school buildings, three teachers quarters and 13 institutional latrines for schools.

Nana Adjei-Boateng said the Assembly is also providing 300 brilliant but needy children with school uniforms, sandals and school bags to encourage them to stay in school.

He urged the people to vote for the New Patriotic Party to continue to provide them with more development projects. The Municipal Director of Education, Ms Felicia Duku reminded the teachers that they were professionally trained and therefore, they could perform better than teachers in private schools.

She therefore, called on them to give of their best to help improve upon the standard of education in the Municipality. Ms Duku appealed to the people of Akwadum to help the school in maintaining the school compound.

The Odikro of Akwadum , Nana Yaw Okyere who chaired the function, called for the provision of toilet and urinal facilities in all new school buildings constructed to avoid the situation where some of the pupils could use the absence of such facilities to run away from classes.
