Another MP Dies In Motor Accident
Mrs Gladys Asmah, the minister of Women Affairs, lost her husband on Sunday afternoon, when he collapsed and died soon after coming back from church.
In an unrelated incident, another member of parliament has lost his life through a motor accident. The Member of Parliament for Gomoa East, Mr. Emmanuel Acheampong, and Mr. Kofi Laryea Quarshie, the Constituency Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) died on the spot when the car in which they were travelling was involved in an accident at the outskirts of Gomoa Brofoyedur.
Constituency Executive Member of NPP, Mr. Kwabena Amissah, sustained injuries and was rushed to the Winneba Hospital but was later airlifted to the 37 Military Hospital. The bodies of Mr. Acheampong and Mr. Quarshie have been deposited at the Winneba Government Hospital.
Mr. Justice Asante, Swedru Divisional Police Commander told the Ghana News Agency at Swedru that the MP and the two others were travelling to Brofoyedur, to inspect a school project when their vehicle veered off the road and somersaulted at about 1130 hours on Sunday.
The MP and the Constituency Chairman had also arranged to address a party meeting at Kwamekrom.
Mr. Asante said the MP, who was driving, lost control of the vehicle adding that the Police were still investigating the cause of the accident.
The late Hon. Acheampong was the second member of Parliament to die in a motor accident in less than two weeks. The first was Hon. John Achuliwor MP, Navrongo Central who is yet to be buried.
