Accra, Dec. 9, GNA - Togbe Afede X1V, Agbogbomefia of Asogli Traditional Area and President of Volta Region House of Chiefs, is a visionary leader who has played a key role in bringing socio-economic development to the Region.
Mr Joseph Z. Amenowode, Volta Regional Minister, who made the commendation said “Togbe Afede XIV should be commended for his visions and key role in bringing further development to the Region, as well as what he did already for Ghana in general”.
“Togbe Afede is the architect, I am just a contractor,” he added at the signing of a historic agreement on the establishment of friendship Regions relationship between Volta Region and Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region in the People’s Republic of China at Ho.
A statement issued and copied to Ghana News Agency in Accra on Friday, said Mr Gong Jianzohong, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China signed on behalf of Ningxia Province while Mr Amenowode signed on behalf of Volta Region.
Mr Amenowode said “This signing is totally non-political and we have to thank Togbe Afede, the Volta Regional House of Chiefs and the Board Members of VORDA – The Volta Region Development Agency, for their initiative.
“This historic agreement will greatly benefit the people of Ghana and China in general and the Regions of Volta Region and Ningxia in particular.”
Under the agreement, both Regions shall carry out, exchanges and co-operate in areas of economy, trade, agriculture, fishery industry, mining industry, Chinese and African traditional medicine, tourism, science and technology and health to promote common prosperity and development.
In addition, there will be regular contacts between the leaders and relevant departments of the two sides to facilitate consultations on the exchanges and co-operation as well as matters of common concern.
This final agreement followed from the visit of a delegation from the Volta Region to Ningxia in September, this year to sign an MOU with the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region.
It was a colourful ceremony, attended by members of the Volta Region House of Chiefs led by Togbe Afede XIV, Board Members of Volta Region Development Agency (VORDA); Members of the Regional Co-ordinating Council; District Chief Executives; Members of the Regional Security Council and prominent business persons from the Region sealed the hand of friendship with the people of Ningxia.
In attendance was the President of Association of Ghana Industries, Nana Owusu Afari and Mr Francis Achemdey, a Voltarian and CEO of Voltek Limited, an Energy Services company and other senior members of AGI.
The Chinese delegation, who attended the ceremony at Ho, included a high powered team of entrepreneurs and investors led by Mr Zhang, Vice President of Baota Petrochemical Group Limited in Ningxia, Mr Chu, Chairman of China Africa Development Fund, which has its headquarters in Ghana and Mr Bai, Head of China Business Advisory Council in Peking.
The Volta Region Development Agency (VORDA) is the implementation agency for the delivery of $250 million projects contained within the revised Volta Region Economic Development Plan (VORDEP) 2011-2015.
