Accra, March 30, GNA - Dr Kwame Amoako Tuffour, Member of the National Council of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), on Thursday called on Ministers of State to be responsible in order to propel the nation to its targeted destination.
He said it was morally wrong for Ministers upon whom such arduous tasks had been bestowed to use their positions for selfish gains. Dr Tuffour, who was speaking at a press conference in Accra, said the current problem staring at the NPP was the undue advantage some Ministers were taking at the seat of the Presidency.
"Under the circumstances, the Party is exposed to a real danger with irreparable consequences by such selfish aspirants, who still hold to their positions as Ministers", he said, adding that such Ministers had lost focus and were misusing State time and resources to the detriment of the good people of Ghana.
Dr Tuffour, who is also the National Coordinator for the School Feeding Programme, said the struggle for the highest office of the land by some State Ministers within the Party was weakening it and the Government as a whole.
He called on the Government "to give them the sack", saying "the good strides made so far should not be allowed to fade by these insensitive and selfish State officials".
He called for the decentralization of the process of registering Party members, which he said, was the sure way of generating internal money for the Party offices and constituencies, aside independence and self-sufficiency.
On presidential aspirants and registration fees, Dr Tuffour proposed 100,000 million cedis saying the fee must be high to benefit the Party.
Dr Tuffuor said reshuffling of the Cabinet was a constitutional and democratic right of President John Agyekum Kufuor to exercise. He said the President must listen to the demands of the public and to use his prerogative to decide on whom to change, remove or choose.
