Ministry of Food and Agriculture vaccinates 7,345 animals

Breman Asikuma (C/R) Aug. 27, GNA - The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA), has since January this year vaccinated a total of 7,345 animals against various diseases free of charge in the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa (AOB) District.

Madam Georgina Nkrumah Aboah, District Chief Executive, made this known at the Assembly's meeting at Breman Asikuma on Thursday. The animals; 1,685 sheep, 5,393 goats, 243 dogs and 24 cats were given anti-rabies vaccination.

Madam Aboah said it was government's efforts to ensure that healthy animals were slaughtered for the public. Madam Aboah said the District Agricultural Development Unit of the Ministry of Agriculture has distributed 530 cockerels to 21 farmers.

This is to promote poultry production locally, improve protein and reduce meat importation, thereby increasing income earning capacity of rural dwellers. On the supply of fertilizer to farmers, Madam Aboah said the government was implementing a fertilizer subsidy programme throughout the country.

This has resulted in the commodities being at a much reduced price, she said. She said currently, there were stocks of 450 bags of NPK and Sulphate of Ammonia (SoA) with DAN's Agro store in Breman Asikuma. Madam Aboah said NPK was to be sold at Gh¢30.00 per bag, Ammonia at GH¢29.00 a bag and Urea Gh¢25.00 per bag.
