Ministry of Health directs final year students to go home

The Ministry of Health has directed the Ghana Education Service to allow all final year students to go home.

The directive from the Ministry takes immediate effect on Wednesday, March 18, 2020, the statement said.

The statement signed by Dr. Mrs. Martha Gyansa-Lutterodt, Director, Technical Coordination said the students should be made to go home until further notice.

The government of Ghana imposed a ban on all public gatherings like conferences, funerals, festivals, political rallies, church services, Islamic worship for 4 weeks starting Monday, March 16, 2020.

Schools were also shut down with the exception of final year students.

Some teacher unions including Ghana Union of Teachers (GNAT) raised concerns demanding that final year students be allowed to go home.

The statement from the Health Ministry asked the Education Ministry to direct all Principals and Directors to treat the directive with urgency.
