Mr Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, the Minister of Information, on Friday donated 181 laptops, tyres and van batteries to district and regional information officers of the Information Services Department (ISD) to enable them to effectively discharge their duties.

He said the laptops, which were internet enabled, would facilitate the flow of information from the district and regional offices to the Head Office whiles the vehicle tyres and batteries would also facilitate their patrols in disseminating information.

The ISD is the policy implementation and information dissemination arm of government.

Mr Abdul-Hamid said his outfit was committed to revamping the ISD to promote national governance adding that the ISD was an organisation needed for advancement of national cohesion, unity and vision.

He commended the ISD for its public education in the areas of tax education, fight against illegal mining (galamsey), and budget campaigns among other things.

“I believe that all of these campaigns have helped to strengthen your roles as the major carriers of government information.

“In many areas because of the proliferation of FM radio stations, people in urban centres turn to underestimate the importance of the green and yellow van but in many of our rural communities across the country, even to this day, the yellow and green colour is the authentic voice of government and once any sound emanate from it, they know that this is the voice of government,” he said.

Mr Abdul-Hamid, therefore, said the work of the ISD ought to remain insulated from partisanship to help in the development of the nation.

He urged the staff to put up positive attitude towards work and work diligently without malice, hatred, acrimony and biases.

The Information Minister charged the district and regional information officers to judiciously use the laptops for their intended purposes.
