Accra, July10, GNA - The Ministry of Transport has directed the Ghana Railway Company Limited to suspend all operations on the Accra-Nsawam rail line with immediate effect.
A statement signed by Mr. Kweku Sersah-Johnson, Public Affairs Manager of the Ministry, said the directive comes in the wake of the derailment on Friday at the railway crossing at the Neoplan Station, near the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra, which led to a heavy human and vehicular traffic. It said the suspension of services was to allow for thorough check and repair works to be car ried out on the affected line to forestall any future occurrence. The Ministry has also ordered the management of the Ghana Railway Corporation to probe the derailment and report its findings to the Ministry on or before Friday, July 17.
