Members of the Springs of Joy-Thou Sayeth the Lord Ministry (SOJ-TSTL) International, an Evangelical Charismatic Christian Fellowship Ministry, at the weekend undertook a Breast Cancer Awareness Walk at La Bawaleshie, to create awareness among the residents about the disease.
The Walk, the second by the Ministry, started from the La Bawaleshie Presbyterian School Park, through Lagos Avenue, Shiashie, and then to the AC Shopping Mall, and finally ended at the starting point.
It was followed immediately by a free screening exercise on three diseases, namely, Breast Cancer, Hypertension and Diabetes.
Speaking at the function, Dr Samiuel Akor, Co-ordinator of Health Programmes of SOJ-TSTL, advised residents within the community to under-go regular check-ups in order to know their health status.
Dr Akor said the walk was the second by the Ministry, and that the first one was organized in October 2013, to create the necessary awareness among residents in the community on the need to under-go regular check-ups.
Dr Akwasi Agyeman Prempeh, General Overseer of SOJ-TSTL, said the exercise formed part of the Ministry’s social responsibility towards the community, and that the idea was mooted two years ago by her wife, Mrs Rosemond Prempeh to assist the residents in the community to lead healthy lifestyles.
Dr Prempeh said apart from addressing the spiritual problems of the congregation, it was equally important to cater for their physical well being, in order for them to fulfill their God-given missions on earth.
Mr Emmanuel Kyerematen Agyarko, Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, who took part in the walk, said he was very happy to be associated with the exercise.
Mr Agyarko advised the constituents to always take advantage of similar programmes to ensure the early detection of certain ailments.
