The Minority in Parliament on Friday blocked efforts by Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin to expedite the vetting and approval of Herbert Krapa as Minister of State-designate for the Energy Ministry.

President Akufo-Addo nominated Deputy Energy Minister Herbert Krapa as Minister of State at the Energy Ministry following Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia's selection of Energy Minister Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as his running mate for the 2024 elections.

Majority Leader Afenyo-Markin called on the House to speed up the vetting process, expressing concerns about potential leadership vacuums. He specifically requested the Appointments Committee to conduct the vetting on Friday, July 5th.

However, Deputy Minority Leader Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah objected, pointing out that the incumbent Energy Minister is still in office and questioning the urgency.

Emmanuel Buah stressed the importance of following procedures and suggested publishing the nomination in newspapers as a preliminary step.

Herbert Krapa, who was previously appointed by President Akufo-Addo as Chairman of the Board for the Electricity Company Ghana in March this year, now finds himself in the spotlight amidst parliamentary discussions about the timing and process of his confirmation.
