UPDATE: After 3PM, the Members of the Minority started filling their seats in the Chamber
The Minority Caucus of Parliament appears to have boycotted the 2024 mid-year budget review, which is expected to be presented by Minister of Finance Dr. Mohammed Amin Adam, at Parliament on Tuesday, July 23, 2024.
Information gathered by GhanaWeb’s team at Parliament indicates the Minority MPs are not in their seats, indicating they might not be in the chamber for the presentation.
At the same time, GhanaWeb has gathered that the leadership of the Minority is meeting with the other side to negotiate on some issues before the Minister of Finance appears in the House to fulfil his constitutional mandate.
The team also indicated that all the seats on the minority side of the House remain empty even though the presentation was advertised to start at 10:00 am.
The Mid-Year Budget Review is in accordance with Section 28 of the Public Financial Management Act, 2016 (Act 921), which requires the Minister to provide the mid-year fiscal policy review of the Budget Statement and Economic Policy of the Government.
The Minister of Finance is expected to touch on a number of issues, including economic and fiscal performance for the first half of the year, growth measures, revenue, expenditure performance, financing, and debt sustainability.
