Victor K. Adawudu, lawyer for senior military officer, Colonel Samuel Kojo Gameli and civilian employee of the Ghana Armed Forces, Gershon Akpa who were charged on Friday, September 27, for "plotting” to destabilize the Akufo-Addo government, has described security officer who sent his clients to court without informing him in time as miscreants who act unintelligently.
The suspects were taken to court and charged with the possession of explosives and ammunition without lawful excuse in the absence of their lawyer.
Reacting to the development in an interview with JoyFM monitored by MyNewsGh.com, Mr Adawudu described the development as unfortunate, stating the while there are many security officers who act professionally, there others who act unprofessionally.
“I am now beginning to feel, to understand that sometimes when we have professionals, and we all have some miscreants in the security set-up that they do unintelligent things,” he lashed out.
Mr Adawudu is the lawyer for all of the five accused persons in the alleged coup plot.
So far, eight persons including Lance Corporal Ali Solomon, Lance Corporal Godwin Nii Ankrah, Lance Corporal Sylvester Akapewu, Lance Corporal Baba Ibrahim, Lance Corporal Seidu Abubakar and one WO2 Esther Saan aka Mama Gee of the Military Academy and Training Schools (MATS) are in the grips of the police.
The rest are a senior military officer, Colonel Samuel Kojo Gameli, together with a civilian employee of the Ghana Armed Force, Gershon Akpa, were put before the court last week and remanded in BNI custody.
All the suspects have been slapped with five charges including; conspiracy to commit crime – Manufacture of arms and ammunition without lawful authority, conspiracy to commit crime – Possession of explosives and firearms without lawful authority, manufacture of firearms without lawful authority, manufacture of explosives and ammunition’s without lawful authority and possession of explosives and firearms.
