Miss Ewurafua Hawkson has completed her breastfeeding campaign in Tamale with the support of UNICEF.
She addressed over 300 nursing mothers, health officials, students, market women and other members of the general public on the importance of breastfeeding. She also congratulated and encouraged the health workers who have been tasked to promote exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of an infant's life to work hard.
Mrs. Stella Nyinah, UNICEF, Mrs. Balchisu Dasou, PNO-Regional Public Health Nurse and Mrs. Mary Ann Ako gave lectures and answered questions.
The Tamale Regional Administration and Regional Health Administration were in full support of the campaign and contributed to its success.
Miss Hawkson visited the Tamale market and the Tamale Regional Hospital to propagate her message that breastfeeding is the best start to life at no cost. She also visited and donated food items to the Tamale Children's Home in Nyohini.
Miss Ghana's trip coincided with the Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama's tour of the North and she therefore had the opportunity to pay a courtesy call on him and the Regional Minister.
