Miss Ghana appreciates voluntary blood donors

Ms Nadia Ntaanu, Miss Ghana 2014 and Brand Ambassador for Voluntary Blood Donation, has visited donor groups and corporate organisations to show appreciation for their support towards donating blood to save lives.

The visit which forms part of activities to mark the World Blood Donor Day celebrations is also to help promote voluntary free blood donation.

Ms Ntaanu together with National Blood Service (NBS) officials visited the MTN Head office, St John’s Grammar Senior High School and Hanna Girls Vocational Training Institute, where there was a pledge towards blood donation to supply the blood banks.

Mr Michael Sottie, Donor Services Manager NBS said blood has become an essential commodity hence the need to show appreciation to institutions who have helped in the donation exercises to save lives.

Mr Sottie noted that it is as a result of this that this year’s theme: ‘Thank You for Saving My Life,”, was chosen to appreciate efforts of voluntary donors towards saving the lives of others and raise awareness on the need for regular blood donations for quality, safety and availability of blood products for patients in need.

He said “blood must be ready and waiting in the blood bank for emergency use”.

Ms Ntaanu thanked the institutions and donors supporting the NBS and urged them not to relent in their efforts to champion the course for voluntary blood donation.

She appealed to all to make it a point to be at the Efua Sutherlands Park on Saturday, June 13, to donate blood to climax the celebrations.
