Missing Biometric machine cannot be used - EC

Biometric Voters’ Registration machine, which got missing from the Catholic Basic School ‘A’ at Agona Swedru, cannot be used for any illegal registration.

This is because all the equipment has in-built security features that will make it difficult for anybody to use it for illegal registration.

Mr. Siriboe Quaicoe, Deputy Central Regional Director of the Electoral Commission (EC), disclosed these to Ghana News Agency in an interview in Cape Coast.

He explained that without the finger prints of the authorized officials in charge of the equipment, it will be impossible for anybody to tamper with it.

Mr Quaicoe allayed the fears of the public that the stolen equipment, which included a laptop computer and a webcam, could be used for illegal registration.

The Biometric equipment got missing last Monday morning, from the office of the Head Teacher of the School; Mr. Theophilus Addo Zuta, where it was kept after the day’s exercise.

Mr. Zuta, and Richard Enyan, a registration officer, have been remanded by a circuit court at Swedru for conspiracy to steal and unlawful entry.

The prosecution told the court that Enyan should have kept the equipment in either the house of the official of the District Electoral Commission or the police station.
