Missing items from ministerial bungalows to be investigated

Accra, May 5, GNA - Mr Albert Abongo, Minister of Water Resource, Works and Housing, on Tuesday said government would investigate cases in which household items in ministerial bungalows are reported missing. This, he said would be done to determine if they were stolen or otherwise and added that if they were taken away by former ministers they would have to return them because those items were government property.

Items identified to have been missing at some of bungalows during the Ministers visit included air conditioners, mattresses, refrigerators and water tanks among others.

Mr Abongo, who was touring the ministerial bungalows at Ringway and Cantonment areas in Accra, said a lot of work such as painting, furnishing and replacement of missing items needed to be done before the incoming ministers could move in.

He said it would cost government about GH¢50,000 to renovate and replace some missing items and noted that it would not take the ministry more than a month to put the bungalows in better shapes.

Mr Abongo said renovations at the former Vice President residence and the Australian House would take a longer time because they require thorough maintenance works.

He called on Ghanaians to handle government's properties well because it cost huge sums of money to repair them and advised the new occupants to give a good account of themselves. 5 May 09
