Mogtari has no locus to speak for NDC – Anyidoho

The Special aide to former President John Mahama, Joyce Bawa Mogtari has come under pressure following her comments that she does not see anything wrong with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) being in opposition for eight years

Speaking on Starr Chat last week Wednesday, Mrs. Mogtari said in response to a question to that effect that: “Well I don’t really mind if NPP rules for eight (8) years, it’s democracy and really not an issue. When they lost, you can imagine how they felt when we moved into Flagstaff House and I know the feeling… We’ve all been there and that is the beauty of our democracy.”

In his reaction, however, the deputy General Secretary of the NDC, Koku Anyidoho said the former deputy Transport Minister’s comments are ridiculous, fuming that she has no locus to make those comments.

“She has no locus to speak on behalf of the NDC. NDC’s National Chairman, Kofi Portuphy is our leader…so what Joyce Bawa Mogtari said is her opinion and I can’t say that she hasn’t spoken well. But what I will say is that she is not speaking on behalf of the party. She has no locus, she has no grounding to speak on behalf of the party. That is all,” he said.

However, in a statement, Mrs. Mogtari denied ever saying the NDC can only reclaim power after eight years in opposition.

“I have read with some disappointment, news reports attributed to some officials of our party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), in which I am accused of stating among others that the NDC is not ready for the 2020 national elections.

“While no such statement was uttered by me on the Starr Chat, a personality chat show on March 08, 2017, let me also state, that I have never stated or ever claimed that I am the Spokesperson for the NDC or that I speak for the party,” she said.
