Monday is not a holiday - Ministry

Accra, Oct. 22, GNA - Mr Kwadwo O. Dabri, Head of Public Affairs of the Ministry of the Interior, on Friday debunked rumours that Monday October 25, 2010 is a national holiday.

He stated that if Monday were a holiday, the Minister would have announced it a week earlier.

Mr Dabri told the GNA that people have been calling his office about rumours that Monday is a public holiday, presumably because of the United Nations Day, which falls on Sunday, 24 October. He said there was no reason why the day should be declared a public holiday.

He said the only addition to the public holidays in a year is the Founder's Day, the birthday of Dr Kwame Nkrumah, Ghana's first president, which falls on September 21.

"The next public holiday after this year's Founder's Day would be the Farmers' Day, which is celebrated on the first Friday in December of every year", he stated.

This year's celebration would fall on the December 3, 2010,
