More Cocaine Dumped In Ghana

Joint Police-Military operation underway at Ada

Accra, Aug. 24, GNA -- A joint Military-Police operation is underway at Ada-Foah in the Greater Accra Region to open two containers, which were retrieved from the sea by fishermen earlier in the week. Many Soldiers and Policemen have been guarding the containers, which were found by fishermen after they had apparently been discharged by a ship.

Police sources told GNA that they could not tell what was in the containers.

An Accra-based newspaper, 'The Chronicle', this week disclosed that a ship with a cargo of cocaine had been bobbing up and down the coast because the crew could not dock for fear of being arrested. A consignment of cocaine that was impounded by the security officials in April from a ship, MV Benjamin, is a subject of investigation and criminal case in court.

According to the security agencies, 77 out of 78 parcels of cocaine, each weighing 30 kilograms, disappeared from the ship.
