Accra, (Greater Accra) 5 Nov. The Ministry of Food and Agriculture today received its second donation comprising money and products totalling 4.7 million cedis from the private sector to support the 13th Farmers' Day which will be held on December five at Bechem. in the Brong Ahafo region The donations received by Mr Mike Akyeampong and Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, deputy sector ministers, included two water pumps for irrigation worth 2.5 million cedis and a cheque for 300,000 cedis from Agria Machinery Services. Ghana Engineering Support Company Limited gave 250 head- pans worth one million cedis while Agricultural Engineers Limited donated a corn mill valued at 600,000 cedis. OSA Transport Ltd presented a cheque for 300,000 cedis. Mr Seth Mensah, Technical and Sales Engineer of Agria, said the pumps will assist the beneficiaries to produce all year round since water management is a major problem of farmers. Responding, Mr Asiedu Nketiah said the Ministry has initiated policies and schemes to enable farmers to manage water efficiently for increased production. He urged agricultural engineers to team up with farmers for large- scale production and the efficient utilisation of their products. The Deputy Minister said such partnership will make farmers patronise locally-made tools and implements, while the engineers can improve upon their technology.
