Leaders of the Ghana Hub of the Tony Elumelu Foundation are seeking to increase the number of beneficiaries of the Foundation’s entrepreneurship programme in Ghana from the 27 recorded last year to 100 this year.

The Tony Elumelu Foundation entrepreneurship programme seeks to, among other things, empower 1000 entrepreneurs across Africa every year.
It provides a US$5,000 package to selected entrepreneurs to start their businesses.

An additional US$5,000 interest free loan is given to those who are successful in the first year of business.

It also seeks to promote thought leadership on entrepreneurship through advocacy and evidence-based research.

Again the foundation hopes to create an integrated entrepreneurial ecosystem that promotes African entrepreneurship.

Ghana Hub Lead, Godwin Mawutor Wuankah told Goldstreet Business after a live Facebook feed of a breakfast meeting held at the Foundation’s headquarters in Nigeria that they are exploring various means to ensure that more Ghanaians benefit from the initiative.

“We want to increase the Ghanaian representation and so we are sending the message out for more Ghanaians to apply. It is a great support for entrepreneurs who struggle financially at the start of their businesses,” Wuankah noted.

Some past beneficiaries who shared their experiences with Goldstreet Business expressed their gratitude to the Foundation for helping them realize their dreams.

They include Asomaniwaa Owusu-Ansah founder of Erith Pharmah and Health Services Limited. Her company provides community based pharmacy services to cancer patients and other rare diseases, Philip Aye-Darko who owns Tukwan LCC, an online tour guiding service providers and Lukman Abubakari who is into the processing of sheabutter.
