More students from Tsito Secondary enter tertiary institutions

Tsito (V/R), Aug 08, GNA - A total of 21 students from the Tsito Secondary Technical School in the Volta Region have gained admission into universities in the country this year, an increase of four students over the previous year, Mr Mawusi Aku, Headmaster of the school, said this at the Leavers' Day celebration of the school last Saturday. He said five of the students were admitted into the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) under its policy of special consideration for students from less endowed schools.

"We wish to express our gratitude to the university for the opportunity. "It is our hope that these beneficiaries will work to justify their inclusion," Mr Aku said.

He said the school, established 14 years ago, continued to attract students from all over the country due to the steady improvement in its academic performance and discipline.

The student population stands at 935, made up of 352 girls and 583 boys, he said.

Mr Aku said the school was in need of a multi-purpose hall for use as dinning hall as students now have their meals in-turns in classroom thus disrupting classes, while other school gatherings are held in the open.

Also needed is a reliable water supply system and early completion of the boys' dormitory as the continuing stay of the boys in hostels in town is fraught with risks and undermines discipline and academic work. He said apart from collaborating with a non-governmental organisation to build a library, the school had provided some vital infrastructure aimed at improving on teaching and learning and for efficient administration.

In a sermon, Rev Fr Foster Olator of the Sacred Heart Cathedral, Ho, appealed to the out-going students to set high standards in moral and academic life for themselves as they enter the world.

He said their education should be a shinning light wherever they might be so as to be of good example to their less enlightened peers.

"Dare to be different in a positive way no matter where you are," he admonished."

"My young ones, if you want to prolong your lives in this world please avoid casual sex, in fact abstain completely and wait patiently," Mr Mawutor Goh, the Ho Municipal Chief Executive, said in a message to the students.

"With discipline, fortitude and perseverance you are in a position to reach any goal of your choice in all spheres of human endeavour," Mr Goh told them.
