The Director General of the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) Professor Alex Dodoo on Monday received a delegation from the Moroccan Ministry of Industry, Investment, Trade and Digital Economy to discuss issues of mutual interests.
The three-member Moroccan delegation was led by Mr. Mohammed Benselloun, Director of Consumer Protection, Market Surveillance and Quality at the Ministry of Industry, Investment, Trade and Digital Economy (MIITDE).
The meeting, which is a follow-up to the visit to Morocco by officials from GSA, was aimed at sharing information, best practices as well as technical knowhow on standardisation, mainly on Metrology, Conformity Assessment and Accreditation.
Professor Dodoo told the delegation that his outfit has a zero tolerance policy on sub-standard goods and had therefore kick-started a rigorous programme targeted at stamping out sub-standard products on the Ghanaian market.
This, he explained, forms part of a strategy to promote business growth.
According to Professor Dodoo, there are a lot of areas that the two countries could form partnership, adding that, the GSA really wants to learn from the expertise of Morocco on the promotion and development of standards while contributing to increasing the competitiveness of businesses from both countries.
Mr. Mohammed Benselloun said his organisation is very happy with its collaboration with the GSA and expressed his side’s readiness to work together with their Ghanaian counterpart to achieve a common goal.
He called on both sides to step up activities on the signed Memorandum of Understanding in order to promote business growth and increase investments into the two countries.
The Business Development Manager of the Ghana Standards Authority, Mr. George Anti pointed out that the Authority would be very happy to learn from the experiences of Morocco. “When we came to your country we experienced what you have achieved and we will be very happy to learn from you,” he said.
In attendance at the brief opening meeting was Mrs. Jessica Nkansah, Head of the Fish Inspection Department at the GSA.
Other members of the Moroccan team were Yassine Abarri, Head of Metrology Division at the Directorate of Consumer Protection, Market Surveillance and Quality at the MIITDE and Karim Bakari, Head of Products and Label Section at the Certification Department of IMANOR, the Moroccan National Standards Body.
At the end of the meeting, both sides are expected to identify additional areas of mutual interest and work towards their realisation.
