Mother appeals to IGP to investigate the death of son

Juaso (Ash) June 18, GNA - The mother of a 38 year-old Assembly Member who was found dead at Techiman, has appealed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to order an investigation into the circumstances leading to the death of his son.

The tearful octogenarian, Madam Mercy Amoako, told the Ghana News Agency that her son, Mr Thomson Amoako, who was the Assembly member for Dwendense in the Asante-Akim South District, had an alcoholic problem. Madam Amoako said the son met his untimely death when he went to a prayer camp at Techiman to seek spiritual solution to his predicament. She said her son in the company of one Mr Kofi Sarpong, on May 31 2004, visited the prayer camp of a prophetess.

Madam Amoako said when her son had stayed there for two weeks, she sent for him but she was told that he had left the camp to an unknown destination.

She said the Techiman Police later shown her, the picture of her son when he was found dead and was subsequently buried. Madam Amoako said his son was of sound mind and physical healthy before he set off to the prayer camp and called on the IGP to institute an investigation to unravel the mystery behind his death.
