A Half-Assini Magistrate Court has sentenced a 27-year-old motorbike mechanic to 24 months imprisonment for stealing a Royal motorbike valued GH? 2,500.00.
Atsu Bakawo from Tikobo Number Two near Mpataba, who was charged on two counts of unlawful entry to commit crime and stealing, pleaded guilty on both counts.
The Court presided over by Mr Abdul Majid Illiasu, ordered the convict to compensate the complainant with GH? 2,000.00 for the inconvenience created for him.
Police Chief Inspector Emmanuel Osei Kumi said the complainant, Madam Mary Ehwie, is a trader at Bawia near Mpataba while the convict is motorbike mechanic from Tikobo Number two near Mpataba.
He said in February, the convict sold a Royal motorbike to the complainant for GH? 2,500.00 and she paid GH? 1,800.00 and demanded the documents of the bike before paying the balance.
Chief Inspector Kumi said on February 14, the complainant kept the motorbike in her kitchen under key and lock and woke up at dawn to find the kitchen broken into and the motorbike stolen.
He said the complainant after some personal investigation noticed that the convict had taken the motorbike to the Elubo border.
Chief Inspector Kumi said Bakawo was arrested at Elubo by the Police and he admitted taking the motorbike and reselling it to an Ivorian border official at the Noe border near Elubo for one million CFA France.
He said the Ivorian official has in turn refused to release the motorbike until his money is refunded.
