Kumasi, Feb. 16, GNA - The Very Reverend Professor Osei Sarfo-Kantanka, a lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), has told Christians to move away from complete emphasis on the realm of "spirituality" and become more productive. He noted that the over enthusiasm and obsession with prayer and deliverance sessions to the neglect of economic productivity was the cause of the slow pace of the country's development and high level poverty among the people.
The Very Rev Prof Sarfo-Kantanka was speaking at the launch of a book he authored with the title: "Realise Your Potential" in Kumasi on Monday.
He was critical of modern day prayer and deliverance that tend to lead many a Christian into accepting that their failings and lack of progress in life is caused by others through witchcraft. "Let it not be lost on anyone that excuses for failure are unacceptable to God", he said, adding that, people should have "winning spirit and attitude".
The Very Rev Prof Sarfo-Kantanka spoke of the need to address issues of self-image so that people could have the courage and confidence to face up to the challenges confronting them.
The Right-Reverend Nuh Ben Abubekr, Methodist Bishop of Kumasi, who launched the book, asked Christians to adopt a new attitude to life in order for "more people to come to serve the Lord through you".
There certainly must be a paradigm shift so that "we would begin to realise our God-given capabilities".
Earlier, Mr Emmanuel Donkor of the Civil Engineering Department of the KNUST, who talked on: "Personal Goal Setting", pointed out that it was not just enough to dream about what one wanted to do but more importantly how to go about it.
"It is here that you have to rely on God's guidance through faith", he said, adding, "faulty thinking could only lead to fear". The first copy of the book was auctioned at 1.5 million cedis.
