Viewers of Metro Tv’s “Good Morning Ghana” political program may soon start wondering why NDC’s Elvis Afriyie Ankrah is no longer on the show every Thursday morning squaring it up with NPP Propaganda chief, Kweku Baako Jn.
Metro Tv sources have disclosed to the Lens that the station is under immense pressure to take that decision because of threats issued yesterday by Kojo Mpianim, the Chief of Staff.
Our sources affirm that the “all powerful and cocky” Chief of Staff had officials of the private television quaking in their boots yesterday when he called to threaten the station with lawsuit unless they retracted a statement uttered by NDC’s Deputy General Secretary while discussing the recent wave of killings on the Good Morning Ghana program.
Our sources at Metro have confirmed that subsequent frantic efforts to stop Elvis Ankrah from featuring on the program indicate that beyond the threat of dragging the station to court, the chief of Staff also ordered the station to stop featuring Elvis ankrah.
This will not be the first time that NPP gurus would be accomplishing such a feat even though they continue to proclaim to the world that they are adherents of press freedom. Tough and combative critics of government are routinely taken off various radio and Tv programs as a result of political pressure by NPP government operatives.
Dan Botwe, back in 2001 got Ghana Tv to stop featuring both Elvis Ankrah and Fifi Kwetey on GTV’s breakfast show. NPP’s Randy Abbey, a key member of the Labone Coffee shop mafia and a regular host of Good Morning Ghana, is said by Metro sources to be a key part of the orchestrations to prevent or get off critical voices from the program. For instance, Fifi Kwetey, who regularly features on leading programs like Joy Fm Newsfile, had never been allowed to be a regular panelist of Metro Tv because Randy Abbey, according to Metro TV sources, threatened to quit if the station okayed that move.
Sources at the station are emphatic that everything points to the fact that Elvis Afriyie Ankrah might be the latest victim of NPP’s “kangaroo press liberalism.” And the sad part is that he may not be alone- even the gentleman who hosted the program, Michael Katahena might be axed as well. And when that happens, NPP’s propaganda chief, Kweku Baako, will have an express lane to push the agenda of his beloved NPP government without much hindrance.
