Daboase (W/R), Oct. 2, GNA - Members of the Mpohor-Wassa East District Assembly on Wednesday elected Mr Kwabena Boahen Enin, the incumbent presiding member of the assembly into office for another two-year term. All but one of the 32 members present at the assembly's second ordinary meeting of the second session of the fifth assembly at Daboase voted for Mr Enin, who was the only candidate at the close of nomination.
The total membership of the Assembly is 45 and according to Mr Yaw Amoako Gyasi, District Electoral Officer of the Electoral Commission, who conducted the election, 30 votes representing two-thirds of the members, was required for Mr Enin's endorsement. Mr Enin thanked members for the confidence reposed in him and appealed for cooperation to enable him to perform his duties better. Mr Edward Tawiah Amprofi, District Chief Executive said in order to improve local government administration, four Area Councils and Unit Committees in the district have been inaugurated and provided with support to make them functional.
A total of GH¢ 8,150 had been disbursed to the various Area Councils including Ayiem, Manso, Enyinabrim, Adum-Banso, Mpohor, Ekutuase, Atieku and Daboase to enhance their operations. Mr Amprofi said the Assembly had taken steps to properly acquire lands given out by the Traditional Authority and individual families to check encroachment and any legal tussle in the future. He said about GH¢166,000 had been spent on an oil palm nursery project that the Assembly embarked upon since 2005. Mr Amprofi urged schools and people in the communities to take advantage of the project and cultivate oil palm plantations to boost the oil palm industry in the district. 2 Oct. 08
