In her keynote address as the Special Guest of Honor of the event "An Evening of Interaction and Fundraising" Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo", (Auntie Becky) wife of NPP flagbearer, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo mesmerized her audience with an articulate mind, eloquence, and excellent speech delivery. The event which was organized by the women's wing of NPP-USA under the theme "Empowering Ghanaian Women: Key to Nation Building and Transformation" was held on the evening of October 24th, 2015 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in the "Discovery City" of Columbus, Ohio with Nana Akufo Addo accompanying his wife.
With the event hall filled to its full capacity, many in the audience who were hearing Aunty Becky speak for the first time were swept of their feet. It was therefore not surprising that her address ended with a standing ovation that lasted for a while. She proved that she has more than what it takes to be a first lady by any standard. Her keen knowledge of the current affairs and happenings within the socio-political life of Ghana, coupled with her astonishing beauty and modesty electrified the hall. In fact one member of the Somali Community of Columbus who were there to see Nana Akufo-Addo whom they had heard so much about captured it all when he told the MC "I am overwhelmingly impressed by the intelligence and eloquence of your flagbearer wife. Her message was on point, just as her beauty. She will make a unique first lady!" Aunty Becky addressed an array of issues dealing with the role of women in promoting family values, community development and nation building.
She decided to give some "inside information" about the NPP flagbearer and her dear husband, Nana Addo Akufo-Addo to loud cheers and deafening applause. She pointed out that contrary to what her husband's political opponents would want the public to believe, the man she knows, love and is married to is an exceptional man. She stated, "You must all know that he is surrounded by six of us women in our home: there are five daughters and there is me, and therefore the one thing he does know is the importance of women. Out of our five grandchildren, four are girls, just to make the point: family values are very important to him."
Aunty Becky did not mince words in expressing her affection and appreciation for the man God has given her and Ghana. With unprecedented candour and passion, she made profound statements about her husband and Ghana's president-in-waiting, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. She said, "Every task he (Nana Addo) sets himself, he tackles with enthusiasm and dedication; he listens when anybody offers an opinion, he loves Ghana with an intense passion, and he's never tired of learning new things. He is an honest man, he is hardworking and he will make an excellent president of Ghana."
Lovely, isn't it?!
Chaired by Mrs. Delali Agyekum and husband, the event was graced by the presence of Nana Akufo Addo, Nana Kwaku Agyei-Yeboah (Chairman, NPP-USA), Ms. Otiko Djaba, (NPP National Women's Organizer, Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchway, Ms. Tina Mensah, Madam Rita Asobayire, Dr. Afua Sarkodie-Mensah (NPP-USA Women's Organizer), Dr. Alexander Adusei (Columbus-Ohio Chapter Chair), and a host of parliamentary candidates, NPP-USA National and Chapter Executives, party sympathizers, admirers of Nana and Mrs. Rebecca Akufo-Addo, the leaders of US-based Ghanaian SDA Church in Columbus, the Ghanaian and Somali Communities in Columbus and the general public.
