An Accra Circuit Court presided over by Her Honour Eva Bannerman Mensah has granted bail to embattled radio presenter of XYZ Salifu Maase, alias Mugabe in the sum of GHc50, 000 with three sureties.
Mugabe who has been charged with offensive conduct and publishing information that can cause fear and panic was present in court.
Salifu Maase had claimed on his radio show on XYZ that he had information on a planned assassination on the life of Multimedia Group Limited investigative journalist, Manasseh Azure Awuni after his publication on the use of the Osu Castle by a private person in the recruitment of “party vigilantes.”
The Criminal Investigation Department of the Ghana Police Service thereafter invited Salifu Maase to assist them with any information he had in connection with alleged threats but according to the police, he told them he made the allegation at the time he was “under the spirits.”
His lawyer Edwin Tamakloe while applying for bail said the charge relates to misdemeanor and that at the right time they will prove to the court.
He asked the court to give his client moderate bail conditions since he is ready to stand trial.
The prosecutor DSP George Amega did not oppose to the bail application.
Case adjourned May 2.
