The opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Tafo Pankrono Dr. Anthony Akoto- Osei has disclosed that he nearly sued Montie FM’s Presenter Salifu Maase alias Mugabe who is serving four months jail term for defaming his character, describing him as ‘not correct’.

According to the legislator, Mugabe some months ago accused him of harbouring criminals.

He said he rescinded his decision of filing a suit against Mugabe upon realizing that one of the owners of the station Harry Zakour was a personal friend.

‘I almost sued Mugabe for defaming me but realised that one of the owners is my friend Harry Zakour, he said I have been harbouring criminals and that the Ashanti Regional Police Commander Kofi Boakye was aware of the case, so I was not surprised when they were cited for contempt. I asked is this boy correct?, I mean really he cannot be correct, and BNI said they are not capable how, we are joking with the country, Mugabe used to have body guards, but now in prison, he has been given four wheeler, he claimed he returned from outside to the country to defend Mahama, people have been asking, Ghana are we serious,’ he said.

He stated that the President should have stopped the Montie 3 petitioners immediately they embarked on soliciting for signatures.

Speaking on Abusua Nkommo hosted by Kwame Adinkrah, he said the station was set up to insult and drag people’s names into the mud.

‘The Montie case I mean how could you even think about it, somebody has threatened the Chief Justice (CJ) Georgina Wood with rape and murder and you present a petition to Council of State, you want to create constitutional crisis, we are watching them, the president should have stopped the ministers immediately. If you are a cabinet minister, you advise the president, how can you sign a petition for him to grant some people amnesty. The station was set up to insult people, is that how we run a country, the Supreme court can use Article 2 to overturn actions by the president, we are going into elections, is it something you will even ponder,’ he asked.

Mugabe and two panelists of the station who are members of National Democratic Congress (NDC) Alistair Nelson and Godwin Ako Gunn were jailed four months each by the Supreme Court for scandalizing the court, defying and lowering the authority of the Supreme Court and bringing it into disrepute.
