Multiple sex partners increases risk exposure to HIV/AIDS - Ghana AIDS Commission

Director-General of the Ghana AIDS Commission, Dr. Kyeremeh Atuahene Director-General of the Ghana AIDS Commission, Dr. Kyeremeh Atuahene

The Director-General of the Ghana AIDS Commission, Dr. Kyeremeh Atuahene, has revealed that sexually active individuals who have multiple sex partners increase their risk of exposing themselves to HIV/AIDS infections.

According to him, the best way to protect oneself from HIV/AIDS is by abstaining from sex.

In an interview with Fati Shaibu-Ali on the Happy 98.9 FM morning show, the Director suggested that sexually active individuals commit to one partner who is not HIV positive and trust each other not to cheat. This can only be achieved when both partners conduct HIV tests to know their status and remain faithful to each other.

However, if one cannot abstain from sex or maintain one partner, then it is necessary to avoid unprotected sex.

The Ghana AIDS Commission estimated in their 2023 national and sub-national data research that 50 people are infected with HIV every day, and the majority of new infections have been identified in individuals between 15 and 49 years old.
